ABOUT EVAN QUITELLE
Evan Quitelle Brockington is a native of Philadelphia,
Pennsylvania. Evan is the eldest of seven siblings raised
by a single mother after losing his father at the age of
three. His mother instilled in him the belief in God, good
manners, and how to
be a gentleman. In 1984 at the age of 17, he joined the United
States Navy where he has served for the past 28 years. He has had
the good fortune to have earned the rank of Master Chief Petty
Officer.
While in the Navy he took part in the Hurricane Katrina Relief efforts
where he was directly responsible for coordinating the evacuation of
the victims of the hurricane. He received a Navy Commendation
Medal for his efforts. Other Navy awards include the Navy and
Marine Corps Commendation Medal (2 awards), Navy and Marine Corps
Achievement Medal (6 awards), Good Conduct Medal (5 awards) and
Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal (2 awards). Today he
serves as an Equal Opportunity Advisor for the Surface Forces in
support of the Navy’s world wide operations.
A romantic at heart, it was those early years in the Navy that Evan
discovered a talent for writing. He would write love letters
while away in foreign ports and would later turn to writing
poems. Writing came with ease and he enjoyed the magic of
words. He would later attend a creative writing class in which he
excelled and fueled his passion to write. Evan dreamed of writing
a book of poetry and “Indian Summer” became his first
published work. It is a journey through his life told with poems
of love inspired by the things he wishes his father could have
experienced with him. He grew up not really knowing his paternal
side of the family so “Indian Summer” like it’s
definition is the return of the prodigal sun. In 2005 his mother
suffered a stroke in which she did not recover all of her motor
skills. She has been calling him by his first and middle name
ever since and he decided to use it as his pen name. He has currently
completed his second book titled "Signals of Smoke and Ash."
He holds a Master of Arts Degree in Education and Human Development
from The George Washington University. He
currently resides in Virginia Beach, Virginia. |
